Usually, we begin seeing each other once a week. Research shows that consistent participation in therapy results in more beneficial outcomes. When we meet weekly, we are able to explore therapeutic themes on a deeper level than if we have a less frequent "check-in." However, we can meet more or less often depending on what we determine is best for you.
Currently, I do not accept forms of insurance. I accept private pay at this time. If you would like, I will provide you with an itemized "Superbill" at the end of the month for you to give to your insurance provider in the hope of reimbursement. This is discussed and negotiated between you and your insurance provider.
Things happen and I understand that there may be times you cannot make your appointment. If you do need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please call me 24 hours before your scheduled time so that I may have the opportunity to schedule another client. You may cancel with less than 24-hours’ notice if absolutely necessary. We wouldn't want it to become a pattern, though, as research shows that therapy can be more beneficial by attending regularly. You are making yourself a priority by giving yourself the time to attend.
Usually, my therapy sessions occur in person at my office. Currently, I am practicing social distancing measures and enhanced infection control measures as recommended by the CDC. Therefore, during the pandemic, we fortunately have the option of sessions provided via Teletherapy. Once you become a client, I will send you a link to be able to meet with me during Telehealth for our weekly sessions.
Therapy has the potential to be beneficial to everyone! It is a journey of self-discovery, which may be disruptive at first, but then offers the chance to heal emotional wounds. One purpose of therapy is to help people who are unhappy with their lives but don’t know how to change them on their own. In other words, helping people who feel stuck in their lives find their way out of their situation. The path to this outcome is a deeper understanding of who they are and what their natural strengths are. Most of all, therapy can be a healing process, fueled by self-awareness and self-affirmation, which we facilitate through sharing sessions and behavioral pattern recognition.
The letters stand for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning. The “+”includes all those individuals who do not identify as either LGBTQ or cisgender heterosexuals, representing our belief that it is crucial to affirm and support all individuals regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

During the consultation, I ask you a few questions and we discuss what you would like to accomplish with therapy. If we decide to move forward, we will make an appointment for your first session.
We have specific forms that you need to fill out to initiate therapy with Shine Therapy. This process begins with our consultation call. If we decide that we will work together, I will email you the forms. Please click on the contact me section to get started.
Yes. Although I have a specialty in helping LGBTQ+ individuals, I also work with clients who are straight and cisgender.
